Ortigas, Pasig City- Sunwest Water and Electric Company 2, Inc. (SUWECO 2) was awarded a Certificate of Compliance (COC) by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) for the Villasiga Hydroelectric Power Plant in Bugasong, Antique. The ERC Chairperson, Atty. Agnes Devanadera handed over the COC to the President of SUWECO, Atty. Ronald S. Ang in the ERC Office in Pacific Center Building on July 30, 2019.
This is after SUWECO 2 successfully complied with all the requirements as mandated in the 2014 Revised COC Rules, the Philippine Grid Code, the Philippine Distribution Code, the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) Rules and related rules, orders and regulations.
The Villasiga Hydroelectric Power Plant utilizes an 8.08 MW hydro energy and 100 KW diesel energy as standby/back up. According to the certificate, the power plant is entitled to the Feed-In Tariff rate of Php 5.90/kWh which is effective from August 2016 until August 2036 and the COC received by SUWECO 2 shall be valid for a period of five (5) years, from November 7, 2016 to November 6, 2021.
ERC also issued this certificate to SUWECO 2 as it was also compliant in the Republic Act No. 9513, or the Renewable Energy Act of 2008, where a commitment to accelerate the utilization of renewable energy resources in the country is being practiced. This is to effectively reduce harmful emissions and achieve economic development while protecting health and the environment.
The use of renewable energy is a vital part of every country’s low emission strategy and is important in addressing challenges like climate change, and access to energy and its security. As a forerunner in the hybrid energy sector, SUWECO 2 will continue to promote the use of renewable energy in the country and provide affordable, reliable, and durable electricity to the Filipinos, while helping the environment.
